The Christ The King History
The story of Christ the King Community Church in Port Orange is still unfolding, and if you're new here, we want to share what God has done over the past 13 years. It all began in 2010 when Scott and Jen Kirschner felt called to return to Port Orange to plant a new church. At that time, they had four of their five kids at home, living in McDonough, Georgia, and serving in a vibrant church community. In faith, they answered God's call to return to Florida and embark on this labor of love.
With no external support, they gathered a small group to start their journey. Before officially launching in July 2010, Scott and Jen were invited to join the Christ the King network based in the Pacific Northwest. That summer, Scott also got involved in coaching cross country at Spruce Creek High School. For the next decade, Cypress Creek Elementary School became the church's home, where many meaningful relationships formed and countless individuals grew closer to Jesus.
In December 2019, our church family purchased 7.5 acres at 6015 Spruce Creek Road. Work to clear the dense overgrowth began in January 2020, and we held our first outdoor celebration service in March 2020, marking a significant milestone. However, just a few weeks later, the COVID-19 pandemic swept across the globe, temporarily halting access to the school. Despite these challenges, we continued clearing our property and held regular outdoor gatherings. While many churches closed their doors, we remained open and even grew. Our resilience and faith in God’s plan were tested, and we emerged stronger. Little did we know that outdoor services would still be a hallmark four years later. This unique worship experience in God’s creation has drawn many new faces to our community.
In 2021, we became independent of the CTK Network. By 2023, thanks to our generous church family, we paid off our property, becoming debt-free. As of Spring 2024, we've secured a loan for our first church building and broke ground in the summer of 2024. We anticipate our first church home will open in the summer of 2025, coinciding with our 15th anniversary.
We are continually reminded that the church is not just a building, but a community of people committed to witnessing to our Savior Jesus and the power of God at work in our time and place. We pray that you find a place to belong with us in the Christ the King family!
